About the Role

The Distinguished Software Engineer at Nike, Inc. is a leadership role responsible for guiding the development and maintenance of foundational privacy, governance, and data platforms. The position involves overseeing the design, architecture, and implementation of critical Data & AI Governance capabilities, including databases, streaming platforms, data lakehouses, BI tools, and AI/ML platforms. The role is integral to driving innovation, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance of Nike's data ecosystem, and fostering a culture of experimentation and technological advancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and technical guidance to engineering teams focused on Data & AI Governance and Enablement.
  • Design and evolve the overall architecture of foundational data and governance solutions to align with business objectives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation by driving the adoption of emerging technologies and best practices in data and governance engineering.
  • Mentor engineering talent, build high-performing teams, and promote a collaborative work environment.
  • Partner with product management, data science, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Identify and resolve complex technical challenges related to data security, governance, performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering and analytics.
  • Actively participate in design, development, and debugging activities, demonstrating deep understanding of data engineering principles.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field plus 7 years of experience or equivalent education, experience, or training.
  • Proven track record as a Distinguished Engineer or equivalent role in a technology-driven organization.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence, mentor, and inspire teams.
  • Deep expertise in foundational data governance software solutions, data platforms, including relational and non-relational databases, streaming platforms, data lakehouses, AI/ML/GenAI platforms, and business intelligence tools.
  • Deep understanding of privacy and data architecture for transactional and analytical solutions.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML technologies and their application to data-driven solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with data engineering tools and technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Active involvement in the open-source community and experience contributing to relevant projects or publishing technical articles.
