About the Role

The Executive Director, Commercial Insights and Analytics (I&A) - New Products and Rare Disease will report directly into the Vice President, Commercial Strategy and Insights & Analytics (CSI&A) within the CSI&A department. This role will lead the I&A team for the New Products Commercial Business Unit (CBU) providing strategic expertise (70% of time). This role will also provide I&A oversight for the Rare Disease CBU (30% of time). The position involves leading analytics, customer insights, and competitive intelligence efforts to support launch planning, pipeline commercialization, and strategic decision-making within the company's pharmaceutical/biotech divisions, with a focus on oncology, new products, and rare diseases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the CSI&A New Products and Rare Disease teams in providing business analytics, customer insights, and competitive intelligence to address launch planning and pipeline commercialization needs.
  • Set the strategic I&A direction that aligns with CBU priorities and helps drive launch excellence.
  • Serve as a member of the New Products CBU Leadership Team and Rare Disease CBU Leadership Team, providing I&A expertise.
  • Serve as a member of the CSI&A leadership team to drive cross-commercial innovation and best-in-class delivery.
  • Foster innovative solutions and a design-thinking approach aligned with strategies for the New Products and Rare Disease CBUs.
  • Develop people from both a functional skills and leadership perspective, with the goal of growing internal talent.
  • Assess and implement novel methodologies and frameworks to garner meaningful insights to inform development plans and enhance brand differentiation at launch.
  • Collaborate with the New Products CBU, Rare Disease CBU, and other senior leadership to influence data capabilities and stay informed on the competitive outlook.
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships with CBU stakeholders to ensure insight generation and feedback are embraced.
  • Lead efforts to identify and crystalize insights that inform strategic plans for the CBUs.
  • Work with other CSI&A leads to develop standardized adoption of capabilities such as marketing mix, promotional optimization, data science, market structure analysis, patient/treatment flow modeling, and ML/AI methodologies.

Requirements

  • Proactively communicate with the New Products and Rare Disease CBUs and provide strategic recommendations and insights.
  • Construct and deliver integrated business reviews and I&A summary overviews with the CBUs and CSI&A leadership.
  • Proven ability to influence, communicate, and negotiate with all levels of management across functional and business unit boundaries.
  • Extensive experience managing numerous projects concurrently against stringent deadlines.
  • Prior experience working with I&A projects and initiatives balancing project rigor and timeliness.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute with hands-on experience in implementing large initiatives with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment related to pharmaceutical/biotech commercialization.
  • Familiarity with commercialization and clinical trial stage gates.
  • Knowledge of data industry standards.
  • 20+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech commercial experience, including roles of increasing accountability.
  • Prior experience with oncology and new products/rare disease preferred.
  • Functional expertise in business analytics, customer insights, analog forecast development, market access, and competitive intelligence.
  • Prior experience managing I&A groups responsible for analytics, customer insights, market access analytics, and competitive intelligence, preferably for pipeline/early commercial assets.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with behavioral science, tradeoff studies (conjoint and discrete choice), and methodologies to shape brand benefits.
  • Experience with data science, market structure analysis, patient/treatment flow modeling, and ML/AI methodologies.
