About the Role

The Marketing and Communications team at PG&E shapes how the company communicates with the 16 million people it serves in Northern and Central California. They keep customers informed about PG&E's progress in delivering safe, reliable energy at the lowest cost possible, explain how PG&E is harnessing innovation to achieve climate goals, and drive marketing efforts to promote energy efficiency, income-qualified bill discounts, and electrification initiatives. The Expert Communications Representative will support PG&E's clean energy generation portfolio, including Diablo Canyon Power Plant and hydroelectric projects, focusing on external media communication, messaging, and public safety initiatives, with an emphasis on communicating PG&E's role as a provider of clean, reliable, and affordable electricity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with the media, and develop responses for and respond to media inquiries, including broadcast media, and on-cameras.
  • Manage the development, implementation, and coordination of communication programs and initiatives.
  • Partner with various PG&E leadership levels, functional business areas, and external leaders to remain current on challenges and opportunities affecting the company and its employees.
  • Create original content for communications that can be used in media messaging, news releases, social media, fact sheets, and PG&E blog posts (www.pgecurrents.com).
  • Review metrics to assess and resolve discrepancies within performance progress and objectives.
  • Promptly respond to support occasional after-hours and/or weekend emergency events and issues.

Requirements

  • 6 years of related experience in corporate communications, journalism, and/or politics.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, advertising, marketing, public relations, or related discipline.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in clear, concise, easy to understand language.
  • Experience working with the media at many levels (local, state, national, business, and trade).
  • Ability to develop communication plans, launch, and lead communication initiatives.
  • Willingness to serve in an on-call capacity as part of an emergency response team, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screen, security background check, psychological screen, computer-based training, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Nice to Have

  • Energy industry experience.
  • Experience in media or public relations, journalism, and corporate or marketing communications.
  • Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) credential.
  • Accredited in Public Relations (APR) credential.
  • Experience in coaching and counseling corporate officers and management at all leadership levels.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook) and experience with information systems.
