About the Role

The Marketing and Communications team at PG&E shapes how the company communicates with the 16 million people it serves in Northern and Central California. They keep customers informed about PG&E's progress in delivering safe, reliable energy at the lowest cost possible, explain how PG&E is harnessing innovation to achieve climate goals, and drive marketing efforts to promote energy efficiency, income-qualified bill discounts, and electrification initiatives. The Expert Communications Representative will support PG&E's clean energy generation portfolio, including Diablo Canyon Power Plant and hydroelectric projects, focusing on external media communication, messaging, and public safety initiatives, with an emphasis on communicating PG&E's role as a provider of clean, reliable, and affordable electricity.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain relationships with the media, and develop responses for and respond to media inquiries, including broadcast media, and on-cameras.
Manage the development, implementation, and coordination of communication programs and initiatives.
Partner with various PG&E leadership levels, functional business areas, and external leaders to remain current on challenges and opportunities affecting the company and its employees.
Create original content for communications that can be used in media messaging, news releases, social media, fact sheets, and PG&E blog posts (www.pgecurrents.com).
Review metrics to assess and resolve discrepancies within performance progress and objectives.
Promptly respond to support occasional after-hours and/or weekend emergency events and issues.

Requirements

6 years of related experience in corporate communications, journalism, and/or politics.
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, advertising, marketing, public relations, or related discipline.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate complex issues in clear, concise, easy to understand language.
Experience working with the media at many levels (local, state, national, business, and trade).
Ability to develop communication plans, launch, and lead communication initiatives.
Willingness to serve in an on-call capacity as part of an emergency response team, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screen, security background check, psychological screen, computer-based training, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Nice to Have

Energy industry experience.
Experience in media or public relations, journalism, and corporate or marketing communications.
Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) credential.
Accredited in Public Relations (APR) credential.
Experience in coaching and counseling corporate officers and management at all leadership levels.
Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook) and experience with information systems.
