Head of Engineering

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Be hands-on with coding and architecture, driving both velocity and technical excellence through direct contribution
• Drive product vision and technical strategy using engineering expertise and market understanding
• Partner closely with Product teams to influence and shape product direction
• Champion AI adoption and integration within engineering practices to enhance productivity and product capabilities
• Assess incoming customer issues and personally contribute to solving complex technical challenges
• Lead a team of technical leads and engineers, focusing on growth, development, and delivery
• Hire, support, and contribute to the growth of the Engineering organization
• Thrive in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities shift and change frequently
• Develop a deep understanding of user and customer problems, advocating for and driving solutions with startup speed and flexibility
• Support and develop team members, supporting their growth and career development
• Evaluate current AI tool usage and identify opportunities to enhance engineering productivity through AI adoption
• Review metrics and work with senior leadership on success indicators
• Drive technical delivery and direction, owning engineering deliverables and solutions
• Develop and implement an AI strategy for the engineering team, including tool adoption and process improvements

Requirements

• Active coding experience building and delivering highly technical products, ideally for a developer audience
• Experience with AI tools and technologies, with a passion for integrating AI to enhance workflows and product capabilities
• Hands-on experience with deploying, managing, and/or operating Kubernetes
• Experience supporting and developing engineering teams, including people management skills
• Strong partnership skills with Product teams and ability to influence product strategy
• Ability to adapt quickly in a startup environment with shifting priorities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate technical concepts and collaborate with stakeholders
• Experience in open source software and cloud-native ecosystems (bonus)
• Experience working on developer tools products (bonus)
• Track record of successfully implementing AI solutions (bonus)

Qualifications

• Experience with Kubernetes deployment, management, or operation
• Proven technical leadership in software development
