About the Role

The Head of Engineering, Search Serving at Atlassian is an experienced engineering leader responsible for guiding the Search Serving Platform organization. This role involves managing global teams, driving technical strategy, and delivering scalable, low-latency search solutions that are central to Atlassian's transformation efforts. Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the Search Serving Platform organization, guiding teams across geographies to achieve world-class engineering and operational standards.
Define and drive the long-term technical strategy for cutting-edge search systems and infrastructure.
Deliver highly technical, multi-quarter roadmaps focused on building the world's most transformative enterprise search experience.
Inspire teams, manage complex dependencies, and ensure successful execution of large-scale projects.
Build a culture of reliability, security, and productivity while championing developer productivity and tooling.
Work through ambiguity, craft strategies, and communicate a clear technical vision to stakeholders.

Requirements

BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience.
12+ years of experience developing large-scale distributed systems.
8+ years of experience managing software development teams on complex projects.
2+ years of experience leading teams running search systems at scale.
Excellent communication skills and experience in cross-group collaboration.
Experience managing managers and scaling global organizations with 50+ engineers.
Ability to define and communicate a long-term technical vision and inspire teams.
Strong understanding of business and engineering metrics, with a focus on reliability, security, and productivity.
Ability to hire, onboard, and retain top engineering talent.
Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills.
Empathy, bias for action, quick learning ability, and comfort working in ambiguity.

Qualifications
