Job Description

About the Role

The Health Services Data Analyst provides database development, technical support, reporting, and analysis to enable data-driven decision making within the medical group. Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Financial Officer, the role involves maintaining data integrity, linking data from various sources, and supporting quality and utilization management activities in a managed care setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides database development and technical support, reporting, and analysis to enable data-driven decision making.
  • Maintains the integrity of extensive spreadsheets, links data from different sources and databases, and monitors internal and external data needs.
  • Develops ad hoc and standard reports, extracts and compiles data from various sources, and summarizes reports from canned system reports.
  • Designs and builds spreadsheets and databases accessible by team members or clients, and develops queries with documentation.
  • Automates and standardizes routine projects, develops tools for data retrieval, and maintains complex databases and spreadsheets.
  • Performs financial and clinical analyses using data from various sources.
  • Ensures documentation and file storage are well-organized for easy access and review.
  • Cross-trains with various applications and acts as a department backup resource.
  • Assists with development of new data management systems, reports, and special projects.
  • Participates in meetings, collaborates with other departments, and communicates project status and issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Health Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • 1 Year related work experience.
  • Previous experience in a managed care setting.
  • Experience with medical management systems (e.g., IDX), operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Windows), and PC-based software (e.g., Access, Excel, Word, SQL, Monarch).
  • Experience in development and maintenance of spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to organize workflow efficiently and deal with databases such as IDX and Access.
  • Knowledge of hospital, physician, and healthcare operations.
  • Ability to extract data through Monarch and work within a Windows environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.

Nice to Have

  • Master's Degree in health, business, computers, or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of procedure, diagnostic, and revenue coding (e.g., CPT-4, HCPCS, ICD-9).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred; 1 year of relevant work experience required.
