About the Role

NiSource is currently seeking Summer Interns in Canonsburg PA. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. These positions offer a great opportunity for candidates desiring to launch their career in the Operations field, building professional relationships and participating in professional development exercises and team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry. The position follows a hybrid schedule, requiring on-site presence three days per week and remote work two days per week.

Key Responsibilities

Assists with public relations projects and programs, including charitable giving campaigns and community volunteer events.
Serves as brand ambassador at targeted community events to promote core company messages such as energy efficiency, safe digging, energy assistance, renewable energy education, etc.
Updates media contact and community stakeholder lists.
Develops news content for internal communications intranet (MySource) and internet (NIPSCO.com), including photo and video content.
Creates content for news releases, customer mailings, company fact sheets, and other external communications.
Supports social media activity.
Conducts research on industry and corporate awards, speaking opportunities, and media placements.

Requirements

A journalism, public relations, communications or related undergraduate student with strong writing and organizational skills.
Must be a rising junior or senior.
A self-starter, able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Basic knowledge and understanding of communications, public relations, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
Experience working on a college newspaper or interning at a PR firm.
Intermediate skill level with Adobe Suite (Photoshop specifically).
Photography, videography, or editing background.

Nice to Have

Experience with industry and corporate awards, speaking opportunities, and media placements.

Qualifications

Enrollment as a full/part time student at an accredited university or college.
Experience with college newspaper or PR internship.
