Job Description

About the Role

This internship is located in the Support Unit of the Committee established pursuant to UN Security Council resolution 1540 (2004) ('1540 Committee') and its Group of Experts, in the Office for Disarmament Affairs, New York. The Support Unit provides substantive, technical, administrative and logistical support to the 1540 Committee and its Group of Experts. The internship involves working on data gathering, analysis, visualization, and exploring emerging AI tools related to international peace and security issues. It is unpaid, full-time, and intended for students or recent graduates interested in applying technology to global security challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather and search data from various sources, and generate statistical and analytic reports.
  • Assist in making data analysis to serve in reports, analytical papers, and factsheets.
  • Create data visualizations and dashboards for internal or external use.
  • Monitor and analyze development of advanced technology in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Identify and analyze trends or patterns under assigned areas of responsibilities, using Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques.
  • Explore emerging AI tools to enhance information extraction from unstructured data.
  • Assist with data aggregation and the development of interactive surveys and communication products.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to work with data.
  • Interest in applying technology to international peace and security issues.
  • Knowledge of emerging digital tools and technological trends is beneficial.
  • Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher), or enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • Fluency in English is required.

Nice to Have

  • Ability to identify and analyze issues related to WMD nonproliferation by non-State actors.

  • No working experience is required to apply.
  • Applicants must show proof of valid medical insurance coverage for the full period of the internship and provide a medical certificate of good health prior to the start.
