About the Role

The IT Data Engineer at Qualcomm Incorporated is responsible for implementing large-scale data processing pipelines, creating production inference pipelines, APIs, and analytics to support data-driven decision making. The role involves designing and developing data models, APIs, and pipelines for analytical workloads, data sharing, and movement across multiple systems in a large-scale environment. The engineer maintains data systems and structures for optimal performance and implements machine learning or statistical learning in data pipelines based on input from Data Scientists.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, code, and maintain systems to support the Analytics Infrastructure & Data Lake.
Contribute on analytics requests and perform statistical data analysis as needed.
Develop and operate data pipelines and associated processes.
Collaborate with the global team on projects and operations.
Participate in performance tuning efforts at code and infrastructure levels.
Complete programming routines for data pipelines and system integrations under supervision.
Assist in improving data quality through data enrichment and cleansing.
Maintain summarized datasets and data APIs.
Assist with basic statistical analysis and maintain machine learning pipelines in production.
Learn to automate tasks using data and implement automation under supervision.
Seek knowledge of advances in IT Data Engineering and consult with experienced colleagues.
Work with team members on technical tasks and project challenges.
Escalate complex technical issues appropriately.
Contribute to technical discussions with leads and managers.
Write technical documentation for straightforward projects under supervision.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems) or related field, or 1+ year of IT-related work with a Bachelor's in a non-technical field, or 3+ years of IT work with a high school diploma.
1+ year of programming experience (e.g., Java, Python).
1+ year of experience with SQL or NoSQL databases.
1+ year of experience with Data Structures and algorithms.
Experience with SQL and databases.
Experience with Python programming.
Experience with data pipeline frameworks like Airflow or Dagster (desired).
Experience with Big Data frameworks such as Apache Spark (PySpark), Apache Beam (desired).
Experience with real-time data pipelines using Kafka or Red Panda (desired).
Experience developing with GCP services like BigQuery, PubSub, DataProc.
Proven track record of coding in a multi-developer environment.

Nice to Have

2+ years of IT-related work experience with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or Computer Science.
Experience working in a large matrixed organization (desired).
Exposure to programming languages like Rust, C++.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a technical field or related experience as specified.
Alternatively, 1+ year of IT work with a non-technical Bachelor's or 3+ years of IT work with a high school diploma.
