About the Role

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking a Senior IT Project Manager to lead IT project delivery across the full software development lifecycle, working with engineers, scientists, and business professionals addressing critical national challenges. The role involves partnering with staff, stakeholders, and external consultants on multiple projects in a dynamic environment that values innovation and collaboration. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead IT project delivery across the full software development lifecycle from inception to deployment.
  • Drive project delivery through interactions with key business users, subject matter experts, and business application project teams, integrating complex business rules across multiple enterprise-wide systems.
  • Run multiple IT projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Lead inter-related projects through effective approaches to integrate Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS), Software-as-a-Service, and custom-developed software tools.
  • Provide technical project leadership including active participation in resolution of business and technical issues, input and guidance over architectural/design processes, and oversight of design/development tasks.
  • Provide guidance to team members and quality control over deliverables.
  • Supervise the integration of projects within the overall portfolio.
  • Coordinate activities of key business users supporting requirements, design, development, testing, and implementation phases.
  • Manage costs, schedules, and risks.
  • Develop project plans and monitor, analyze, control, and communicate project achievements and progress updates.

Requirements

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field or equivalent years of professional IT work experience.
  • Have 5 or more years of IT project management experience with a track record of delivering enterprise projects on time and on budget.
  • Possess and apply detailed knowledge and experience with software development life cycle and modern software engineering practices including agile development techniques.
  • Possess very strong written and oral communication skills with the proven ability to develop and deliver briefings to senior management using MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel and deliver presentations to all levels of staff.
  • Have worked with a broad and diverse user community to gather requirements, develop, and validate solutions supporting the enterprise, including implementation of Cloud, COTS, and Custom-developed solutions.
  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice to Have

  • Possess a PMP certification.
  • Have experience with the development and deployment of business applications.
  • Have organizational change experience and the ability to achieve user adoption.
  • Have presented to and gained consensus from executive-level stakeholders.
  • Have experience with both IT infrastructure and applications projects.

Benefits & Perks

  • Minimum rate of $90,000 annually.
  • Maximum rate of $230,000 annually.
