About the Role

Apex Systems is actively hiring for a Sr. IT Project Manager (SCADA/DERMS) role with a Power and Utilities Client. This position is designated as hybrid with candidates working in San Antonio, Texas. The role involves overseeing multi-year SCADA/DERMS projects, managing project teams, coordinating design and construction activities, and ensuring project objectives related to safety, schedule, budget, and compliance are met. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in engineering, consulting, or project management within the power generation sector and will provide technical guidance and leadership on complex, high-risk projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning, design, and construction of multiple capital and/or O&M projects, including modifications and additions to facilities and infrastructure.
  • Facilitate teams through chartering, problem solving, and process improvement activities.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including scope, responsibilities, milestones, and procurement strategies.
  • Ensure project objectives regarding safety, schedule, budget, scope, code compliance, environmental compliance, and quality are met through metrics and benchmarking.
  • Develop procurement and technical specifications for vendor and contractor services, coordinate solicitations, and manage contracts and purchase orders.
  • Plan and monitor design and construction activities for compliance, schedule performance, and quality workmanship across multiple disciplines.
  • Review and approve design documents and drawings for compliance with industry codes and standards.
  • Coordinate development of conceptual and detailed designs, and interface with management for approvals and risk management.
  • Develop, review, and approve startup and testing procedures for system check-out, startup, and commissioning.
  • Train power plant operating and maintenance personnel on new systems, and develop documentation of business processes.
  • Coordinate construction management activities with field operations for quality assurance.
  • Perform system check-out, start-up, and performance testing, assigning tasks to technical leads.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise to support Power Generation Operations and Maintenance personnel.
  • Analyze project data, generate reports, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science or related field from an accredited university, or equivalent technical/craft work experience in power generation.
  • 10+ years of relatable professional experience in engineering, consulting, or project management preferred.
  • Ability to oversee major engineering projects, programs, and initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Technical expertise in Project Management methodologies, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience managing high-risk, large, multi-disciplinary capital and O&M projects typically valued at $5M+.
  • Strong communication skills with upper management and stakeholders.
  • Ability to train and mentor other project managers, engineers, and team members.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is implied as relevant.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with power plant systems and infrastructure modifications.
  • Experience developing Power Generation 5-year capital budgets.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, QA/QC programs, and contract negotiations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in engineering, consulting, or project management in power generation.
