About the Role

Apex Systems is seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to support large information technology projects for a Utility Technologies Solutions team. The role involves driving the execution and delivery of IT projects for various electric utility clients, with responsibilities including planning, coordinating, monitoring, and implementing complex large-scale projects to meet organizational goals. The position requires maintaining efficiency in project management processes such as planning, budget, and risk assessment, and involves organizing, planning, and executing projects involving internal personnel, contractors, and vendors. The role is hybrid and located in Newark, NJ, with onsite participation required as determined by project needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct project team personnel, manage cost and schedule, ensure contract compliance, and serve as customer interface.
  • Manage technical scope, cost, and schedule of assigned tasks or functions of the project.
  • Provide strong, proactive, and assertive leadership skills that engage multidiscipline work teams to respond to business needs for assigned projects.
  • Lead project team members such as executives, line of business subject matter experts, controllers, and schedulers through the lifecycle of a project.
  • Lead end-to-end ServiceNow project delivery encompassing HAM and SAM modules.
  • Manage project teams that typically include multiple vendors with onshore and offshore resources.
  • Create project management plans, set expectations, execute governance reviews, and ensure the project plans are driven by organizational procedures.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional project stakeholders to develop project scope, objectives, goals, and deliverables.
  • Ensure requirements are gathered, documented, reviewed, and approved per organizational/PMO standards.
  • Work with assigned scheduler to create a work breakdown structure that defines all activities required for the project deliverables.
  • Manage project budget, maintain financial plan, track actuals vs. plan, provide monthly forecasts, and report monthly accruals.
  • Establish and provide high-quality, informative written and verbal project communications, including weekly status, dashboards, and project updates.
  • Actively monitor, track, and manage project tasks, timelines, milestones, and overall quality of project activities and deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field with 5+ years of experience as an IT Project Manager.
  • Experience managing ServiceNow Hardware Asset Management and Software Asset Management (HAM/SAM) projects.
  • Previous IT project management experience for a utility.
  • In-depth project management experience handling project financials, schedules, scope, and testing.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid understanding of project management and PMO processes and procedures.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships, partnerships, and external networks.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent customer-facing skills.
  • Excellent decision-making and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Smartsheet or similar project management tools.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection and security guidelines.

Nice to Have

  • PMP or equivalent certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or additional years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • 5+ years of experience as an IT Project Manager.
  • Experience managing ServiceNow HAM/SAM projects.
  • Previous IT project management experience in the utility sector.
