IT Technical Project Manager (Chicago)

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the transition of legacy systems to modern stacks (e.g., AG stack or Guidewire).
• Address ongoing production issues and validate vendor deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, particularly for Java, C#, or C++-based backend systems.
• Coordinate with external vendors to stay informed on technical developments and facilitate discussions with stakeholders to resolve challenges.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation using tools like Planview, Excel, or Asana as directed by the PMO.
• Work with HR to clarify team reporting structures as projects transition from other leads.
• Occasionally travel (e.g., one trip per quarter to Denver or California) for planning and collaboration with business partners.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Technical Project Manager with a strong background in managing IT projects.
• Past experience as a hands-on developer, particularly involving backend development (e.g., Java, C#, C++).
• Technical knowledge sufficient to engage with development teams and vendors, understanding system architecture and validating technical deliverables without necessarily coding.
• PMP certification or equivalent experience.
• Self-starter mentality, capable of independently driving projects and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
• Comfortable working with senior leadership (e.g., SVPs, EVPs) to discuss technical details and present updates.
• Proficient in project management tools (e.g., Planview, Excel, Asana) and adaptable to preferred documentation platforms.
• Ability to work in Lincolnshire, IL, with occasional travel.
• Experience in the retail, RV, camping, or outdoor recreation industry.
• Familiarity with modernizing legacy systems or working with platforms like Guidewire.
• Previous exposure to loyalty programs, roadside assistance, or call center applications.
• Experience managing vendor relationships and cross-checking technical deliverables for accuracy.
