About the Role

San Bernardino County is seeking a dynamic and results-driven IT Special Projects Manager to join the Innovation and Technology Department. This position plays a key role in leading and executing strategic initiatives that support the department's mission and long-term goals. The IT Special Projects Manager is responsible for managing and delivering complex, high-visibility IT projects that require cross-departmental coordination, innovation, and technical expertise. Working closely with IT leadership, this individual will oversee all phases of special projects, from concept and planning through execution and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Leads the planning, coordination, and execution of strategic IT projects.
Collaborates with internal stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and success metrics.
Manages timelines, resources, risks, and communication across multiple departments.
Oversees development and implementation of innovative technology solutions.
Serves as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Prepares regular updates, briefings, and reports for executive leadership.
Evaluates emerging technologies and provides recommendations aligned with organizational needs.

Requirements

Five (5) years of experience, within the last seven (7) years, leading complex projects and/or special initiatives in an enterprise environment.
Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college level coursework in computer telecommunications, electronics, computer science, information technology or a closely related field of study.
One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may substitute for 15 semester (23 quarter) units of the required education.

Nice to Have

5+ years of experience in leading complex IT projects or special initiatives.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Project Manager Certificate is highly desirable.

Qualifications

Minimum of five (5) years of experience leading complex projects in an enterprise environment.
College coursework in relevant technical fields as specified.
