About the Role

The Manager, Marketing Planning and Strategy at Walmart is responsible for coordinating and overseeing marketing activities, supporting plans and initiatives to meet customer and business needs, developing customer insights through data analysis, managing marketing programs, and ensuring brand consistency. This role involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, supporting creative development, and managing budgets and performance metrics to optimize marketing effectiveness. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, completes, and oversees job-related activities and assignments by developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Supports plans and initiatives to meet customer and business needs.
  • Identifies and communicates goals and objectives, building accountability for and measuring progress in achieving results.
  • Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by hiring, training, mentoring, and recognizing team members.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and supports Walmart's mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Understands and supports the development of Walmart's marketing strategy and brand objectives.
  • Leverages available data (demographics, purchasing history, surveys, social media, site logs, reviews, responses to advertisements) to develop customer insights and suggest marketplace differentiation.
  • Provides input into promotional planning and associated calendar, including developing creative briefs and recommending target audiences, objectives, budgets, and timelines.
  • Suggests creative considerations such as media, materials, and tone, and prepares meeting materials for brief socialization.
  • Collects performance metrics to evaluate marketing channel effectiveness and maintains awareness of AOP allocations to optimize spending.
  • Begins to develop relationships with key contacts at media channels.
  • Manages a single marketing program, including media plan, campaigns, promotional events, and internal/external communications.
  • Works with agencies to ensure creative output aligns with brand strategy and standards.
  • Reviews campaign performance data, calculates ROI, and supports the development of the annual operating plan (AOP).
  • Conducts analysis of programs and customer data, manages project execution within the AOP, and tracks budget and performance KPIs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business, Marketing, Communications, Media, or related field and 1 year of experience in marketing or related field.
  • Or Master's degree or equivalent in Business, Marketing, Communications, Media, or related field.
  • Experience synthesizing secondary research from third-party tools such as Statista, Mintel, and Kantar.
  • Experience providing internal training on key research tools.
  • Experience developing complex project timelines and facilitating cross-functional meetings.
  • Experience organizing documentation in Sharepoint, OneDrive, and Outlook.
  • Experience pulling data from Tableau and PowerBI dashboards.
  • Experience creating data visualizations with PowerPoint.
  • Experience presenting insights to stakeholders and external clients.
  • Experience analyzing survey and sales data to generate insights.
  • Experience with survey design, logic, methodology, and programming.
  • Experience with mathematical concepts and Excel formulas.
  • Experience in copywriting and editing internal and external content.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with developing and managing marketing budgets and KPIs.
  • Experience with media planning and promotional campaign management.
  • Knowledge of Walmart's marketing strategy and brand positioning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in relevant fields.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in marketing or related fields (or equivalent experience).
