About the Role

CARE is hiring a Manager to support enterprise-wide strategic communications, including Executive Thought Leadership. The role involves garnering quality media coverage for CARE, managing media engagement, and working closely with CARE US colleagues and leadership to craft media content and prepare spokespeople. The position emphasizes proactive media relations, content creation, and social media strategy, with a focus on elevating CARE's voice and profile in US and global media. The role can be remote, with a preference for candidates based in Washington, D.C., and those with experience in humanitarian NGOs or major communications agencies are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage general media relations, especially proactive outreach, on behalf of CARE CEO, Leadership, and CARE US Teams, including building relationships with media and managing interview requests.
  • Support press briefings and staff interviews as needed.
  • Coordinate and execute CARE's Executive Thought Leadership plan, including content creation, media outreach, and securing leadership participation in relevant forums.
  • Identify and support spokespeople, develop and draft talking points and briefing materials, and provide media training and workshops.
  • Collaborate with CARE's Office of the President to manage the CEO's social media engagement strategy, including content approval, analytics monitoring, and content calendar creation.

Requirements

  • Strong background working on a media relations team or in an agency setting.
  • Deep understanding of Strategic Communications.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Passion for humanitarian work and CARE's mission to end hunger and poverty.
  • Ability to manage media outreach and build media relationships.
  • Experience working with a humanitarian NGO or in a major communications agency is preferred.
  • Candidates based in Washington, D.C. are preferred, but remote work is possible.
