MANAGING EDITOR, NEWSONE

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Direct a team of content creators to produce engaging, informative, and innovative content on the NewsOne brand, including news briefs, original reported content, op/eds, and multimedia content.
• Work with the content team and Cross-Brand team to solicit pitches, make assignments, break news, source stories, and commission in-depth features and tent poles.
• Manage the content and distribution strategies for all NewsOne's monthly tent poles, franchises, or daily content from conception to execution.
• Collaborate with Content Leadership, Audience Development, SEO, and Analytics teams to incorporate insights into editorial decisions.
• Ensure content creators adhere to iOne Digital's breaking and trending news strategies in collaboration with VP, Content, and Cross-Brand leadership.
• Act as primary contact for Sponsored and Branded content leads to coordinate with sales, production, editorial, client, and ad ops teams during content creation.
• Contribute exclusive content to NewsOne.com as needed.
• Coordinate with social, video, site leads, sales, and marketing to meet business objectives through editorial efforts.
• Work with VP and Audience Development to set growth strategies, establish goals, and develop plans to achieve them.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, communication, journalistic ethics, and integrity.
• Ensure compliance with Network and Urban One's mandatory trainings and deadlines.

Requirements

• 12 years' experience in journalism, copywriting, communication, and content development.
• Ability to work with diverse disciplines and teams.
• Superior organizational skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated leadership in motivating and directing teams, providing feedback, resolving conflicts, and supporting growth.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and data-driven decision-making orientation.
• Comfortable in a start-up environment and a digital visionary.
• Sound news judgment and passion for the news.
• Ability to build and sustain relationships with movements dedicated to the liberation of Black people.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
• BA or BFA preferred.

• Experience with multimedia content and digital content strategies.
• Knowledge of anti-harassment and discrimination laws.
• Experience in managing performance reviews and corrective actions.
