Marketing Director

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Provide clear direction and leadership for the three-person Marketing team (Graphic Design/UX, Copywriting & Content, and Social Media Manager).
• Own System76's product marketing strategy — from positioning and messaging to launch plans and go-to-market execution.
• Direct brand strategy and ensure consistent, compelling storytelling across campaigns, content, design, and social media.
• Oversee demand generation, PR, events, and partnerships to drive awareness and adoption.
• Manage and coordinate all product launches, ensuring alignment across teams and flawless execution.
• Develop project plans and timelines for campaigns, ensuring deliverables are met on time.
• Analyze campaign performance, product adoption, and market trends to inform decision-making and optimize marketing investments.
• Collaborate with leadership on company strategy, bringing marketing insights into business planning.
• Serve as a brand ambassador, ensuring System76's marketing reflects open source culture and values.

Requirements

• 7-10+ years of progressive marketing experience, with at least 3 years in a Director (or equivalent) leadership role.
• Proven success leading product launches in the technology industry.
• Strong background in project management and cross-functional coordination.
• Deep understanding of open source ethos and culture; ability to authentically connect with the community.
• Experience in hardware marketing strongly preferred; software and SaaS experience also valuable.
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on, entrepreneurial environment.
