About the Role

The Marketing Strategist is a part of the University Marketing Communications department, and is a crucial member of the Account Services team. The University Marketing Communications department is responsible for raising the profile of the University of Minnesota and promoting University initiatives, education, research and community engagement. The Account Services team facilitates projects and provides strategic direction in collaboration with partners across the University to advance and promote University initiatives. The role combines project management with marketing expertise to ensure alignment with brand standards and University priorities. This position is ideal for a professional who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment on a team that values expertise, thoughtful leadership, and shared success. Key Responsibilities

  • Determine appropriate channels to fulfill a marketing business need or address the identified marketing challenge.
  • Consult with units on their marketing plans.
  • Support and assist the Account Services Director on key marketing initiatives.
  • Assist with and maintain marketing programs.
  • Assist with developing marketing plans and presentations on brand and marketing initiatives.
  • Maintain a dedication to the University's goals that encourage equity and diversity.
  • Promote the University's brand standards.
  • Work with collaborators and clients to assemble and document project requirements.
  • Translate requirements into project briefs and lead project team meetings.
  • Apply marketing expertise to ensure projects align with marketing standard processes.
  • Provide strategic marketing direction to ensure content, design, and development meet project and client needs and leverage brand assets.
  • Communicate project progress with U-Marcomm team leaders; collect feedback and approvals.
  • Identify and resolve barriers to meeting project objectives.
  • Track marketing project progress in tools, providing status reports throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work with the Measurement and Analytics team to establish metrics and develop marketing project reports.
  • Establish strong working relationships and maintain regular contact with University communicators and external entities.
  • Complete professional development, education, and training activities relevant to the role.
  • Stay current on marketing strategy, project management, and technology trends.
  • Assist with other marketing and digital projects as they arise.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree.
  • Six years of professional marketing/digital communications experience, including coordinating multidimensional marketing communications projects.
  • Outstanding project management skills and decision-making abilities.
  • Occasional in-office work expected, including for semi-annual team meetings.

Nice to Have

  • BA/BS degree in communications, journalism, marketing, art or related field.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in informal and formal teams with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Ability to facilitate work of various departments to accomplish common goals.
  • Very detailed oriented.

  • Educational background includes a BA/BS degree.
