About the Role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian organization responding to crises and helping people affected by conflict and disaster. The IRC's External Relations team includes marketing, fundraising, brand stewardship, and communications professionals. The Mass Markets USA (MMUSA) program within this team raises over $70 million annually in the U.S., building brand awareness and supporting advocacy efforts. The Officer, Planned Giving Marketing, will focus on implementing audience-led, omnichannel marketing strategies to promote planned giving, develop donor-centered content, manage vendor relationships, and collaborate across teams to grow IRC's planned giving pipeline and legacy support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement an audience-led, omnichannel marketing program to promote planned giving opportunities across direct mail, digital, telemarketing, and other channels.
  • Integrate planned giving messaging and offers into mass marketing campaigns and donor engagement journeys.
  • Translate high-level strategy into actionable project plans, timelines, and detailed campaign briefs.
  • Collaborate with content and creative teams to develop compelling, donor-centered materials highlighting the dignity and resilience of the communities IRC serves.
  • Ensure messaging and creative assets are consistent with IRC's brand voice and resonate with donor motivations.
  • Leverage storytelling and impact-focused content to build a deeper emotional connection with legacy donors and prospects.
  • Serve as the day-to-day lead for vendor relationships, including agencies, creative partners, and list brokers.
  • Provide clear direction, track performance, and ensure accountability for high-quality execution.
  • Lead contract renewals, performance tracking, and budget updates in partnership with the Senior Officer.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues across MMUSA and External Relations to ensure planned giving marketing is integrated into broader donor journeys.
  • Work closely with the Planned Giving team, including Gift Officers and the Senior Director of Planned Giving, to align messaging and strategy.
  • Support the Senior Officer of Strategic Philanthropy in advocating for planned giving as a core part of IRC's audience-led strategy.
  • Contribute insights and recommendations during team meetings, brainstorms, and campaign debriefs.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on campaign results to inform continuous improvement.
  • Use data-driven insights to recommend future campaigns and improve overall program effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field, or 3+ years of equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in marketing, fundraising, or donor engagement, preferably with exposure to planned giving, major giving, or audience-led campaigns.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities.
  • Excellent writing and content development skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire donors through storytelling and impact.
  • Analytical and data-driven, with experience interpreting performance metrics to inform strategy.
  • Proficiency in marketing tools and software such as CRMs, email marketing platforms, and analytics tools.
  • Creative, collaborative, and proactive problem-solver who enjoys testing new ideas.
  • High attention to detail and dedication to delivering high-quality, accurate work.
  • Passion for the IRC's mission and supporting its long-term goals.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with planned giving, major giving, or audience-led campaigns.

Qualifications

  • Educational background in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related fields.
