About the Role

This position is a part-time work-study opportunity at Pennsylvania State University within the Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) Department. The student will have the opportunity to produce high-quality professional portfolio pieces by creating social media and web content that highlights the department and its students. The role involves assisting with department communications, event organization, and marketing efforts, under the supervision of the HDFS Program Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create stories for social media, websites, and digital mediums.
  • Operate photo cameras and/or video cameras.
  • Conduct interviews and attend events as needed.
  • Update the HDFS board, brochures, flyers, and website content.
  • Assist with department needs such as events, social media, and video projects.
  • Help organize the department's advisory board meetings.

Requirements

  • Penn State student with an eligible Work-Study award.
  • Ability to work 5-10 hours a week.
  • Able to work semi-independently and take initiative on projects.
  • Basic knowledge of storytelling, news writing, and social media best practices.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office products.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with operating photo and video cameras.
  • Experience conducting interviews.
  • Familiarity with social media management and content creation.

  • Enrollment as a Penn State student with an active Work-Study award.
