About the Role

Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Launch and Missile Defense Systems is offering an exciting opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer - X-Lab to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This position, located at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, plays a crucial role in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. The role involves developing and integrating future-capability prototypes for the Missile Defense System, including Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User Interface Development, and other advanced missile technologies. The X-Lab focuses on integrating R&D systems into C2BMC, evaluating prototype performance, and supporting system testing and analysis activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and development of verification analysis tools.
  • Coordinate, develop, and maintain analysis and test tracking tools.
  • Ensure the proper backup and archiving of test products and analysis datasets.
  • Develop and maintain analysis tools according to the requirements provided by test analysts, including Excel-based tools (utilizing VBA) and Java-based tools.
  • Support the integration of source tracks into C2BMC prototypes and analyze track processing results.
  • Generate and assess concurrent radar and sensor tracks during modeling & simulation (M&S) and live flight test events.
  • Improve experimental prototypes based on test outcomes and analysis results.
  • Evaluate how C2BMC prototype systems perform and support ongoing X-Lab projects.

Requirements

  • Current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a PhD, or 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrable skills in full-cycle software engineering of new capabilities.
  • Basic Systems Engineering understanding to guide software design.
  • Experience with Java object-oriented development principles and patterns.
  • Experience with Linux environment and relational databases.
  • Experience with software testing and analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of Agile software development processes and principles.
  • Willingness to work in a full-time on-site position at Schriever SFB.

Nice to Have

  • Current and active in-scope DoD-issued TS/SCI clearance at time of application.
  • Current DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+ CE, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP, CCNA Security, etc.).
  • Experience with other object-oriented software such as Python, C++/C#.
  • Bash or similar scripting experience.
  • Experience with spreadsheets for data analysis and tools development.
  • Development and automation of data management processes and tools.
  • Strong teamwork skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline (preferred).
  • Master's Degree or PhD in a related field (preferred).
  • 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
