Job Description

About the Role

The Product Manager is responsible for the overall growth of the assigned product segments under Fire Suppression, Firefighter Air Replenishment Systems (FARS). This role involves integrating newly acquired businesses into JCI, driving revenue growth, developing multi-generational product road maps, overseeing cost-out initiatives, gathering customer and market insights, and advocating for code adoptions through non-profit and third-party organizations. The position requires significant cross-functional interaction and project management leadership across global sales, engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, and other functions. The role reports to the Senior Director, Product Management, and is based in North America, with the option to work remotely or from a JCI office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the market, product trends, and voice of customer information.
  • Conduct sizing and segmentation of markets.
  • Perform regular competitive and regulatory research and analysis on the product line.
  • Develop the product line strategy based on relevant data and insights to meet customer needs.
  • Determine the value propositions of individual products in the product line.
  • Communicate the strategy, value proposition, and pricing guidelines, and align with the organization.
  • Define the multi-generational product line roadmap.
  • Develop new product concepts in existing and new markets/channels following the JCI phase-gate process and running multi-stakeholder development teams.
  • Define product requirements including cost, quality, and timing targets.
  • Deliver detailed business cases for new products and enhancements.
  • Participate as the Subject Matter Expert for tradeshows, customer events, industry and regulatory associations.
  • Collaborate with nonprofit organization leadership and business development teams to set annual new targets based on intelligence gathering.
  • Lead cross-functional teams through the product lifecycle process, including introductions, analysis, value assessment, and SKU rationalization.
  • Understand the product portfolio at a global level, including SKUs, pricing, profitability, sales by customer/channel, quality, and warranty.
  • Analyze sales trends and communicate updates to end customers.
  • Interface with end-users, sales, engineering, marketing, and operations.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in business or an engineering field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of business experience, with at least three years in a product management role with hard good/tangible products.
  • Experience in product management and product development within a phased-gate process.
  • Comfort and experience interacting with external customers.
  • Success in scaling business from North America into global markets.
  • Experience working in a matrix business structure and collaborating across functions on joint programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong financial and general business acumen.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites 10-20% of the time.

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience within a fire protection, fire service, or infrastructure-related industry.
  • MBA qualification.
  • Experience in New Venture Integrations (acquisitions) to incorporate small businesses into corporate entities.
  • Advocacy for non-profit organizations in the fire service industry.
  • Proven ability to drive results via disciplined execution amidst organizational ambiguity.
