About the Role

The Marketing Manager - Journals, Portfolios & Related Products at the American Chemical Society is responsible for developing and executing marketing strategies for journals and related products to achieve growth, usage, and satisfaction goals. The role involves collaboration with editorial teams, external stakeholders, and cross-functional marketing teams to build effective positioning, communicate value propositions, and promote ACS publications within the academic industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take primary responsibility for the marketing strategy, planning, and editorial liaison of a collection of journals, products, and portfolios.
  • Implement a scalable approach to journal, portfolio, and related product marketing, managing stakeholder expectations and focusing on core priorities.
  • Nurture and develop relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders, including Editors-in-Chief, to gain buy-in for marketing strategies and plans.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the Demand Marketing team to develop marketing strategy, messaging, and copy for integrated campaigns.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of researcher personas, use cases, and competitors to build effective positioning aligned with author needs.
  • Communicate goals, initiatives, and results of marketing campaigns internally and externally through meetings and presentations.
  • Assess market research to understand researcher needs, analyze trends, and monitor competitive activity to inform communication strategies.
  • Create clear messaging and value propositions to support journal and product programs, differentiating them in the global market.
  • Develop editorial enablement tools such as presentations, battlecards, and one-pagers for conferences and outreach events.
  • Attend events and conferences to promote ACS publications, and represent the marketing team on cross-departmental projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in Product / Journals Marketing.
  • Experience in STM academic publishing marketing is strongly preferred.
  • International marketing experience within a global organization is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to define strategic opportunities and successfully execute plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders and managing relationships.
  • Confident public speaker, comfortable presenting to large, senior groups, and skilled in copywriting.
  • Understanding of digital marketing channels and tactics.
  • Good organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience managing marketing budgets and reporting on ROI.
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Office products.
