Job Description

About the Role

The Product Manager contributes to NEEA's strategic goal of filling the energy efficiency "pipeline" by identifying and validating new energy efficient products, practices, and services in collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders. This position requires effective planning for the evolution of products through the full lifecycle stages of identification, assessment, confirmation and product readiness for deployment in a full-scale market transformation effort. Working across a wide range of products that use electric power and/or natural gas, the Product Manager contracts with testing labs, industry experts, engineering firms, and other market partners to support analysis and testing of products. The role involves serving as a product expert, conducting research on emerging technologies, and partnering with various teams to support market transformation initiatives. The position is based in Portland, OR, with a hybrid work location requiring at least 2 days onsite per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scan the market for new innovative energy efficiency products, practices or services and screen those opportunities for inclusion and prioritization within NEEA's portfolio of emerging technologies.
  • Track industry and technology trends and share data with the team.
  • Define the product plan for each assigned product/service/practice and evolve this plan throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support the needs of end users, supply chain, and utility partners, and monitor products after intervention ends.
  • Develop measurement and verification approaches to demonstrate products' energy performance and fitness for use.
  • Coordinate with voluntary standards organizations to update test methods and performance specifications.
  • Assist in developing market strategies and designing full-scale market transformation efforts in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with manufacturers, market actors, and utility staff to ensure product development efforts are connected to market channels.
  • Manage contracts and contractor work for testing, pilots, and demonstrations, including creating RFPs and handling crises.
  • Review product and program performance regularly to meet NEEA's value delivery goals.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships within NEEA and with program teams, supporting team success.
  • Operate as an effective team player, collaborating and contributing to team settings.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to teams and contractors.
  • Support the establishment of processes, budgets, schedules, contracts, work plans, and risk management.
  • Manage and oversee contracts and contractor work related to testing and demonstrations.

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree in Engineering, Marketing, Business or related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience with increasing responsibility, preferably in new product development or strategic product market management.
  • Demonstrated complex project management experience.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency, electric utility business and operations, and/or Northwest energy markets (preferred).
  • Experience in product strategy development, market assessment, forecasting, and risk management (preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including gathering, synthesis, and analysis of complex information.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and build consensus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and project management tools.
