About the Role

The Product Strategist will be responsible for defining, developing, adapting, and deploying a coordinated market strategy to transform the market for NEEA's HVAC product group to sustainably embed more efficient products or practices in targeted markets. The role involves identifying a vision for a transformed market, setting long-term goals and strategies, and leading market engagement to build and maintain meaningful partnerships with manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and trade allies. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure successful strategy implementation and execution, with a focus on delivering business results and achieving short and long-term goals. This position is based in the Portland, OR metro area, with a hybrid work location requiring at least 2 days onsite per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion the implementation of the HVAC product group market strategy with cross-functional staff related to program implementation, product roadmaps, emerging technology, market research, and marketing strategies.
  • Use internal and external analysis to develop a market transformation vision and comprehensive strategy for assigned product groups, including identifying trends, barriers, and opportunities, and defining interventions and end market states.
  • Coordinate with product management and team members to analyze product performance, competitiveness, and marketplace trends, and adapt market strategies accordingly.
  • Define goals and objectives for assessing and characterizing market opportunities in collaboration with product management and market research teams.
  • Communicate NEEA's product group market strategy internally and externally, including presenting at regional and national conferences.
  • Build and maintain relationships with HVAC industry market actors to learn about new opportunities, access market data, and influence product development plans.

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree in Marketing, Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or Master's preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in strategic management and product development for broad strategic markets, including market assessment, forecasting, and risk assessment.
  • Experience working with emerging technology, innovation, strategic marketing/planning, and product development or commercialization.
  • Experience developing and managing business partnerships with manufacturers, retailers, distributors, and trade allies.
  • Experience working on integrated building energy systems or projects such as commercial HVAC, motor-driven systems, fans, and drives.
  • Ability to lead, influence, and sell a vision and strategy within cross-functional teams without formal authority.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating strategic plans, managing financial plans and budgets, and overseeing contractors.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency, electric utility operations, and Northwest energy markets is preferred.
