About the Role

The University of Southern California (USC) is a private research university in Los Angeles, California, known for its prestigious programs and extensive research activities. The USC Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) and the Thomas Lord Department of Computer Science (CS) are highly ranked. The NSF NRT Program on Integrating AI and OR aims to educate graduate students at the interface of Artificial Intelligence and Operations Research through interdisciplinary activities, including course development, workshops, seminars, and research. The Project Coordinator will support the co-directors and leadership team in managing and implementing this program, providing administrative support and ensuring smooth operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement the activities of the program, including workshops, seminar series, meetings, and research conferences.
  • Work closely with the leadership team, faculty, and graduate students to ensure proper implementation of the program and the progression of students through the curriculum.
  • Supervise students in designing and maintaining the website and other marketing materials for the program.
  • Communicate with program participants (current and prospective students, faculty, advisory board members) regularly and through diverse media such as Zoom, phone, and email.
  • Track and manage data on activities, publications, student participation, and budgetary expenses.
  • Keep detailed meeting notes.
  • Help draft project reports and presentations.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational capabilities, excellent written and oral communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Experience in collecting and organizing program budgeting data.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience relevant to project management in business or STEM fields.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting and coordinating the creation and administration of new programs.
  • Experience in event organization and management.
  • Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Academic marketing experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of administrative or research experience.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Effective communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Hourly rate range of $30.62 - $32.29.
