About the Role

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. The Agile Mission Systems (AMS) at GA-ASI in San Diego, CA is a growing center of excellence seeking high-performing technical contributors, unique talent, and future leaders in the Project Engineering (PE) role. In this role the candidate will be responsible for supervising and leading the Software & Processing PE team reporting directly to the Sr Manager of Mission Capabilities. In addition to being a supervisor, this individual must be a high performing Technical Contributor, leading company's strategic objectives, supporting multi-subsystem configurations, influencing complex ISR collection chains, resolving critical mission gaps, and driving missionized architectures to achieve disruptive tactical advantages and effects on adversarial competition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to innovate, design, integrate, test, qualify, and rapidly field advanced technologies and mission systems onto GA-ASI ISR and UCAV platforms.
  • Support development of mission-critical software initiatives and proliferation of Government Reference Architecture (GRA) and open standards (OMS, FACE, etc.).
  • Support development, testing, and selection of AI agents and behaviors to optimize autonomous capabilities across GA platforms.
  • Support AMS initiatives to develop mission software focused on reduction of manpower through autonomy, machine learning models, rule-based automation, simulation environments, and platform HMI & Payload C2 improvements.
  • Drive selection of computing edge-node capabilities, processing frameworks, and compute resource solutions for mission-critical and AI-enabled software products.
  • Leverage software skills to improve IR&RF Multi-Function Apertures (MFA), onboard fusion, track management, sensor resource management, and autonomous agents.
  • Support integration of organic products, cloud-based architectures, location intelligence, multi-INT discovery, correlation, fusion, geospatial big data querying, and pattern of life analytics.
  • Lead and manage a high-performing team, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, resource allocation, and performance management.
  • Foster collaboration between engineering departments, program management, external stakeholders, and customers.
  • Lead program execution to meet milestones within cost and schedule parameters.
  • Represent programs as the engineering lead, ensuring effective communication with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Support proposals, perform system analysis, conduct trade studies, author technical white papers, and generate customer technical data packages.
  • Lead design, support mission architecture implementations, and develop artifacts such as specifications, block diagrams, and interfaces.
  • Configure, integrate, simulate, test, and evaluate tactical data link networks and topologies.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's, master's, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Fifteen or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, thirteen or more years with a master's degree, or ten or more years with a PhD; equivalent engineering experience may be substituted for education.
  • Experience with mission software on ISR and UCAV platforms.
  • Technical expertise in multi-function processing technologies across the aerospace industry.
  • Knowledge of multi-INT sources and cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience with AMS-GRA developments and architectures.
  • Experience in developing and integrating software with disciplines including Mechanical, Electrical, RF, Cyber, Autonomy, AI/ML, and Software.
  • Knowledge of software solutions enabling tactical data link networks such as Link 16, TTNT, UHF, VHF, IFF-T/I, SATCOM, Starshield, LPI/LPD waveforms, Encrypted Communications, and next-generation data links.
  • Knowledge of sensing technologies including Multi-Mode Radars, EO/IR, IRST, Electronic Warfare, Multi-INT, Countermeasures, and related systems.
  • Proven ability to quickly understand new concepts and apply them in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrates engineering principles, project management, and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads.
  • Experience with product management, proposal development, basis of estimation, and EVMS; experience in commercial and DoD product development.
  • Strong problem-solving, leadership, and team management skills.
  • Effective communication skills to build relationships and manage customer expectations.
  • Must be customer-focused, able to work independently and in teams, and willing to work extended hours and travel.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
