About the Role

The Project Management Officer (Communications) will support the International Resource Panel (IRP) within UNEP to strengthen its communications capacity, visibility, and outreach. The role involves developing and executing high-impact communication strategies, modernizing digital platforms, and enhancing stakeholder engagement to position IRP as a leading global platform for science-policy dialogue on natural resource management, aligned with its strategic work programmes for 2022-2025 and 2026-2029.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct an initial communications audit of IRP digital platforms, publications, and partner dissemination practices.
  • Launch the IRP website upgrade process, including finalizing scope, functionality needs, timeline, and coordination with developers or vendors.
  • Provide ongoing management of IRP social media and website platforms, ensuring weekly content updates and analytics monitoring.
  • Develop a draft IRP communications strategy aligned with the 2026-2029 Work Programme.
  • Draft IRP Communications Report for the 34th IRP Meeting, including analysis of current visibility and strategic outreach priorities.
  • Finalize architecture and content map for the redesigned IRP website in collaboration with developers.
  • Support IRP event communication and visibility efforts in the lead-up to UNEA-7, G20, and/or UNFCCC preparatory events.
  • Update the IRP partner engagement and dissemination list; initiate outreach with selected partners.
  • Prepare a communications toolkit for G20, UNEA-7, and COP30 engagement, in collaboration with the Secretariat.
  • Finalize and submit the IRP 2026-2029 Communications Strategy, integrating feedback from IRP members and the Secretariat.
  • Begin production of at least one multimedia product (e.g., animated explainer, promotional video) for IRP outreach.
  • Coordinate messaging and promotional activities with key partners to promote the IRP programme of work.
  • Oversee final implementation and testing of the upgraded IRP website and coordinate its public roll-out.
  • Launch dissemination campaign to promote the new website, including partner mailings and digital promotion.
  • Deliver a finalized partner communications toolkit featuring branded visuals, social media tiles, message templates, and event slides.
  • Submit a final report summarizing completed outputs, campaign analytics, and recommendations for sustaining communications.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, digital communications or related field, or a first-level degree with qualifying experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in communications or digital media.
  • Demonstrated experience with website management and content production.
  • Proven ability to translate technical or scientific information into accessible messages for diverse audiences.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French is desirable.
  • Experience coordinating partnerships and campaigns across institutional stakeholders is desirable.
  • Prior experience working in the UN or international science-policy environment is desirable.
