Job Description

About the Role

The Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing the portfolio of projects for the organization's engineering team from project intake and scoping through production. They must effectively communicate cross-functionally and to all levels of the organization, including senior leaders. The role involves leading project teams to accomplish challenging goals and working closely with the corporate PMO to define and implement project management process continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Understand business objectives and opportunities
  • Manage new project intake process
  • Lead cross functional project scoping
  • Assess and communicate resource constraints
  • Develop project charters to align project scope, schedule, budget, and KPIs with project sponsors and stakeholders
  • Establish and manage the project schedule, assign tasks, and ensure project deliverables are completed as planned
  • Lead project core team to ensure cross functional coordination of all project activities
  • Support the preparation for and ensure the completion of design reviews
  • Lead preparation for and conduct project gate reviews
  • Manage project scope through disciplined use of change management process
  • Manage Risk Register and Issues List, communicate issues and action plans, and escalate issues as needed
  • Own project status reporting and communicate updates to senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Role model for project management best practices, including defining, teaching, and enforcing good practices
  • Work with PMO team to continuously improve project management processes

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, business, or similar field
  • 5+ years experience leading new product development projects
  • Multiple successful project leadership from initiation through launch
  • PMP Certification
  • Proficiency in written and spoken communication, coaching, organizational skills, initiative, team collaboration, decision making, and time management
  • Ability to effectively engage, manage, and communicate with stakeholders including senior leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of project management 'triple constraint' of scope, time, and cost
  • Risk management skills to identify, analyze, communicate, and respond to project risks
  • Effective stakeholder management and communication management skills
  • Leadership ability to guide and motivate project teams
  • Decision-making skills with the ability to make informed, timely, and well-documented decisions
  • Financial literacy related to project financial analysis and metrics
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of product development relationships
  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to articulate problems, facilitate solutions, and act with a sense of urgency

Nice to Have

  • Experience with project management tools and software
  • Additional certifications or training in project management or related fields

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, business, or similar field
  • 5+ years experience leading new product development projects
  • PMP Certification
