About the Role

Join our team of globally connected specialists to help solve complex transport challenges and experience groundbreaking projects from idea to delivery, and beyond. The US West Region is looking for a motivated Transportation Project Manager - Highways Roads to support GHD's established Highways, Roads, Bridges practice throughout California and the US West. This position offers the opportunity to work on highways, interchanges, local roads, roundabouts, trails / active transportation, bridges, and other vital improvements, collaborating with federal, state, regional, county, municipal agencies, and private sectors. The role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams across the organization and clients to deliver high-value consultancy services, with a focus on California offices or Phoenix, AZ.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clarify roles and responsibilities within the project team and ensure project compliance with organizational governance and decision-making structures.
  • Plan and manage the delivery of projects within an area of expertise, using appropriate project management methodologies to ensure outcomes are achieved.
  • Lead large project teams or multiple small- to medium-sized teams; define project vision, communicate outcomes, and provide guidance to achieve these outcomes.
  • Coordinate team actions across project activities and manage the flow of team members as needed.
  • Build team capability through training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Manage identification of risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints; develop and implement solutions to overcome concerns.
  • Deliver baseline assessments and post-implementation analyses to evaluate and track the realization of business benefits.
  • Negotiate and manage deployment of project resource budgets, providing forecasts and variances.
  • Drive a culture of innovation through multistakeholder solutions, idea generation platforms, jam sessions, and hackathons.
  • Communicate actions needed to implement the team’s strategy and motivate team members to achieve business goals.
  • Develop personal capabilities through ongoing education, training, and professional accreditation.
  • Manage projects within transformational change programs, ensuring integration and using structured change management methodologies.
  • Develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans to identify relevant stakeholders and foster positive relationships.
  • Plan and lead activities for project scope definition, including analysis and stakeholder consultation.
  • Manage assurance reviews within projects, enable independent reviews, and resolve issues to ensure project delivery within time, budget, and quality standards.
  • Interpret business needs and identify solution recommendations at the business unit level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience with solid technical knowledge and skills in transportation and municipal engineering, including planning and design; construction experience is a plus.
  • Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California or Arizona.
  • Experience in transportation project management, specifically in highways and roads.
  • Experience with project management software and tools.
  • Ability to lead development of project/client proposals and participate in interviews.
  • Knowledge of Caltrans and AASHTO guidelines and standards.
  • Strong understanding of PS&E package development.
  • Experience with local agency, state, and federally funded transportation projects, including projects delivered in partnership with Caltrans.

Nice to Have

  • Construction experience in transportation projects.

Qualifications

  • Professional registration as a Civil Engineer in California or Arizona.
