About the Role

The American Museum of Natural History is seeking an IT Project Manager to drive the full lifecycle of IT projects from initiation to closeout. The role involves developing project charters, creating detailed project schedules, managing project documentation, coordinating with technical teams and partners, and leading project closeout activities. The position reports to the Senior Manager of Product and Planning and is part of the IT's Product and Planning team. The museum is a renowned scientific and cultural institution dedicated to research, education, and exhibitions related to human cultures, the natural world, and the universe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support IT projects and efforts as assigned.
  • Develop meeting agendas, schedule and facilitate project meetings, take minutes and follow up on action items.
  • Create and maintain project charters, schedules and other key project documentation.
  • Provide regular project updates and status reports.
  • Track project tasks assigned to internal teams and external vendors.
  • Maintain a schedule that requires availability after-hours for system upgrades, project rollouts and emergencies.
  • Lead project closeout activities, capturing lessons learned and finalizing outputs including run books.

Requirements

  • Experience in managing IT projects from initiation to completion.
  • Ability to develop project charters, schedules, and documentation.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with technical teams and stakeholders.
  • Availability to work after-hours for system upgrades and emergencies.
  • Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Nice to Have

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Qualifications

  • Experience in project management, preferably in IT.
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP are preferred.
