Public Information Specialist

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Support the organization with public speaking, public tours, and creating articles for internal and external customers.
• Assist in planning, organizing, staffing, and managing logistical details of special events, community outreach activities, employee activities, and other projects or events.
• Prepare articles, fact sheets, and content for various internal and external communications.
• Design basic graphics using Canva, such as infographics, posters, and displays.
• Participate in project and team meetings.
• Read, understand, and communicate County rules, regulations, procedures, and relevant laws.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with the media, community leaders, County management, and representatives of public agencies and private organizations.
• Compose, coordinate, and edit educational, informational, and promotional materials like pamphlets, brochures, and newsletters.
• Research information and formulate recommendations.
• Speak in public and before groups.
• Design internet and intranet postings, including social media content.
• Adhere to deadlines and perform other duties related to the role.

Requirements

• 3+ years' experience with social media management, including running pages and developing strategies.
• Strong writing and editing skills, with ownership of internal blog content.
• Experience with website updates and management, preferably with WordPress.
• Ability to track analytics and build reports on social media and website performance.
• Customer service skills for interacting with vendors and the public.
• Willingness to assist with tours, events, and program coordination.
• Familiarity with graphic design tools like Canva is a plus.
• Proficiency with Outlook for scheduling and communication.
• Previous experience working for a PR firm or agency supporting state and local public information is preferred.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of LinkedIn and its use for recruiting.
• Experience with website management and content strategy.
• Experience supporting education programs and event planning.
• Familiarity with data analysis and report building.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting public information efforts, preferably with PR firms or agencies supporting state and local governments.
