About the Role

The School of Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication at James Madison University invites applications for a full-time, renewable term appointment (RTA) lecturer position beginning August 2025. The department is dedicated to the art and science of communication across various modes and genres, with a community of over 20 full-time faculty members and more than 200 students. Key Responsibilities

Teaching WRTC 103: Rhetorical Reading and Writing, a core course in JMU's General Education Program.
Managing a teaching load of 4 courses per semester with a class size of approximately 22 students.
Potentially teaching additional courses in the major such as community writing or culturally engaged courses, depending on expertise and departmental needs.

Requirements

An earned master's degree in composition, rhetoric, writing, or a related field.
Evidence of substantial, successful experience teaching first-year writing.
A commitment to building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

Nice to Have

Experience teaching courses in the major such as community writing or culturally engaged courses.

Qualifications
