The Senior Analytics Engineer role is part of the Sports Modeling & Innovation team, focusing on designing, building, and maintaining data models, datasets, and visualizations to support pricing models and business decisions, bridging data engineering and data science teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of analytics engineers within the Sports Modeling and Innovation team, working directly with Data Scientists, Analysts, and Traders.
  • Own existing sports data pipelines including player, team, game, and play-by-play level data.
  • Develop pipelines to ensure fast (sometimes real-time) ingestion of data into databases such as SQL, Delta Lakes, Redshift.
  • Lead the design of data models to support users across FanDuel Group, identifying potential improvements and building production-grade data models.
  • Maintain validation pipelines that flag bad or missing data and iterate on these pipelines when new databases are created.
  • Manage existing data transformation jobs, optimize code, troubleshoot issues, and automate data cleaning projects on large datasets.
  • Make decisions between memory and speed tradeoffs to optimize project needs, reduce query times, and remove unnecessary metrics.
  • Create and own a backlog of prioritized data tools.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working in an analytics/data engineering role.
  • 3+ years maintaining databases with a focus on improving data ingestion pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of US sports, including managing play-by-play level data and player databases.
  • Deep understanding of relational databases.
  • Proficient in SQL, Databricks, R/Python, Tableau, AWS S3 buckets, command line.
  • Experience building data pipelines using Python/R and Databricks is preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Math, Stats, Econ, or relevant data analysis experience.
  • Strong personal organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively in groups.
  • Interest in sports and sports gaming is preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building data pipelines using Python/R and Databricks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Math, Stats, Econ, or relevant experience.
