About the Role

Vertex is seeking a talented leader to join our US Kidney Business Unit to support our aspirations of bringing inaxaplin, a Phase 3 investigational therapy for APOL1-Mediated Kidney Disease (AMKD), to patients. AMKD is a rapidly progressive form of proteinuric kidney disease that is genetically caused and occurs in people of African ancestry. The Senior Director, Head of Marketing, US Kidney - AMKD leads the AMKD marketing team for the US Kidney Business Unit. This role involves preparing for potential commercialization of inaxaplin and povetacicept, developing launch strategies, and managing cross-functional marketing activities across HCP, Patient, Unbranded, and Thought Leader Marketing. The role reports to the Vice President of the US Kidney Business Unit and is a key member of the BU leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drives the evolution and implementation of the go-to-market model, leading the launch plan to bring transformative therapies to patients across multiple diseases.
  • Builds and coaches the marketing team to deliver exceptional results and operate as a high-performing team.
  • Leads the development of brand strategic and tactical plans, including annual planning and execution.
  • Creates commercialization campaigns with compelling key messages, unbranded disease education, and branded patient and HCP campaigns.
  • Generates market insights to position Vertex therapies for success.
  • Utilizes data and technology innovatively to deliver agility and evaluate ROI for all activities.
  • Defines performance goals and tracks progress, leading the cross-functional launch readiness team.
  • Provides input into forecasting assumptions for short-term and long-term planning.
  • Maintains external focus through customer and field team engagement.
  • Develops strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to support business goals.
  • Collaborates with the communications review committee to approve customer-facing materials.
  • Manages agency partners and internal teams to ensure on-budget and timely deliverables.
  • Models and promotes a culture of compliance, ethics, and integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Typically requires 12 years of work experience and 5 years of supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience defining strategy for a brand or portfolio requiring significant market development.
  • Ability to oversee insights generation and apply insights to business opportunities.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to develop strategy, monitor performance, understand ROI, and allocate resources.
  • Exceptional knowledge of market forecasts and business drivers related to revenue.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical marketing or closely related fields such as pharmaceutical sales or ad agencies.
  • Experience managing teams and individual staff members.
  • Preferred experiences include specialty product launch, market development, and kidney-related experience.
