About the Role

Avidity Biosciences is seeking a Senior Director, Product Communications to lead strategic external communications across their pipeline and future commercial programs. The role involves shaping and executing integrated communications to elevate their science, support key milestones, and raise awareness among media, patients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders. The position offers high visibility and extensive interaction with the executive team, patient advocacy groups, clinical development, commercial, and medical affairs. Avidity is focused on delivering RNA therapeutics through its proprietary AOC platform, with a mission to profoundly improve people's lives by addressing previously unreachable targets and diseases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead integrated corporate communications activities for commercial products and late-stage pipeline assets, including launches, regulatory milestones, and clinical study readouts in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and colleagues on messaging, positioning, and external engagement.
  • Develop compelling materials for pipeline and future products to raise awareness and understanding across external audiences including media, healthcare professionals, and advocacy groups, such as press releases, messaging, Q&A, media materials, and campaigns.
  • Manage agency and external resources to ensure alignment with business goals, high-quality deliverables, and budget discipline.
  • Oversee pipeline and product media relations and act as a company spokesperson for product-related news.
  • Collaborate with global, regional, and internal partners to ensure consistent messaging and strategic alignment.
  • Monitor competitive landscape and media trends to shape communications planning and response readiness.
  • Support internal education and employee engagement around product and pipeline developments.
  • Track and report communications impact through relevant KPIs to inform continuous improvement.
  • Travel as required, including international travel (potentially 20-30%).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a closely related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in Pharma/Biotech Corporate Communications, including pipeline and/or product communications in a highly regulated setting, ideally in rare diseases.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, especially with Commercial, Medical, Legal, and Regulatory teams.
  • Skilled in developing global messaging and aligning with international colleagues and affiliates.
  • Proven success in developing and executing communications for pivotal clinical study readouts, product launches, and lifecycle milestones.
  • Strong understanding of drug development, regulatory processes, and therapeutic landscapes.
  • Deep experience in media relations and serving as a company spokesperson.
  • Ability to influence across functions and levels, and lead communications agencies.
  • Excellent storytelling skills with experience translating scientific data into accessible narratives.
  • Motivated to make a difference for those living with rare and serious diseases and passionate about science and transformative therapies.
  • A 'bias for action' mindset, thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Experience in rare diseases or highly regulated environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a closely related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years' experience in Pharma/Biotech Corporate Communications.
