About the Role

As a Senior Manager - Data Governance & Management within the Financial Reporting Quality Assurance Organization (FRQA) at American Express, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with data governance policies related to Finance. You will lead efforts to define and implement data governance strategies, support audits and examinations, and collaborate across various teams to improve data management processes. Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic thought partnership with the Enterprise Data Office, Enterprise Data Risk Management, Internal Audit, Technology, and Regulatory Reporting teams to ensure compliance with data risk policies.
  • Support or lead various audits, reviews, or examinations performed on Finance Data Governance processes.
  • Support or lead remediation of findings or gaps identified in the data governance and management processes.
  • Assess impact of new policies or policy refreshes on processes and guide the team in change management or establishing new processes.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation exists for data governance and management processes.
  • Support implementation of PRSA / RCSA controls and ensure effective controls on processes.
  • Establish Finance Data Governance implementation roadmap including strategic priorities.
  • Implement requirements of the Enterprise Data Governance Policy within critical Finance systems/processes.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Finance Data Governance.
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to finance data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of finance systems.
  • Advance the Data Governance Strategy for the Finance Data Management initiative, utilizing new technologies to create standardized data sets.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of work experience in Banking/Financial Services.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
  • Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to enterprise information assets.
  • Experience in leading audits and reviews for data governance processes and liaising with stakeholders.
  • Experience in policy implementation and risk mitigation.
  • Proven record of process improvement.
  • People leadership experience and ability to attract, engage, and retain high-caliber global talent.
  • Working knowledge of Agile methodology or other project management methodologies.
  • Strong relationship management and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in finance or accounting.
  • Knowledge of AXP Financial and Regulatory reporting.
  • Experience with implementing enterprise data policies.
  • Experience with technology-driven data management initiatives.
