Job Description

About the Role

Lokal Media House is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking SEO Director to lead our agency's search engine optimization efforts. In this senior leadership role, you will be responsible for setting the strategic SEO vision for our client base, overseeing the execution of technical, content, and local SEO initiatives across multiple accounts, and guiding a growing team of SEO professionals. You will play a hands-on role in developing scalable, innovative, and AI-integrated strategies that drive real business results, particularly for service-based businesses operating in competitive local markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and define the overarching SEO strategy for each client, ensuring all SEO initiatives align with their business goals and growth plans.
  • Oversee strategic planning, execution, and refinement of on-site and off-site SEO tactics across all accounts.
  • Lead and mentor the SEO team (such as SEO Managers and Specialists), establishing clear performance benchmarks, enforcing best practices, and fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct comprehensive SEO audits and implement technical improvements such as site architecture optimization, page speed enhancements, Core Web Vitals compliance, schema implementation, and mobile responsiveness to ensure crawlability and indexability.
  • Guide keyword research, content optimization, metadata structure, and content recommendations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to build scalable link-building and content strategies that elevate organic rankings and increase relevant traffic.
  • Lead the local SEO strategy by implementing geo-targeted tactics, including Google Business Profile optimization, citation management, and hyperlocal content creation.
  • Ensure that clients with multiple locations have SEO strategies tailored to local search behavior and international nuances where applicable.
  • Leverage emerging AI tools and automation to enhance content development, keyword research, internal linking, and data analysis while staying within current search engine policies.
  • Stay ahead of industry developments, including AI Overviews, SGE, and generative search platforms.
  • Track and analyze SEO performance across all accounts using platforms such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and other enterprise tools.
  • Report on key KPIs including traffic, keyword rankings, click-through rate, and conversions.
  • Use insights to refine strategies and respond to algorithm updates.
  • Partner with internal teams in content, design, development, and strategy to ensure SEO is integrated into all marketing efforts.
  • Act as the agency-wide SEO advocate and embed best practices into campaign planning, website builds, and content execution.
  • Track and test emerging SERP changes and AI search platforms such as Perplexity, SGE, and ChatGPT Search.
  • Pilot innovative approaches to structured data, schema for generative content citation, and brand visibility within AI-generated answers.
  • Build and test frameworks for new success metrics inside AI-driven search environments.

Requirements

  • 8-12 years of hands-on SEO experience with proven success leading strategy across technical, content, and local SEO.
  • Several years in a leadership or director-level role managing SEO teams and overseeing performance across multiple clients or large websites.
  • Deep expertise in technical SEO such as site speed, structured data, indexing, and Core Web Vitals.
  • Strong knowledge of content SEO including keyword strategy, content optimization, and on-page structure.
  • Experience with off-page SEO including link acquisition strategy and authority building.
  • Proficiency in local SEO including GBP optimization, citation management, and multi-location SEO.
  • Experience leveraging AI in SEO workflows, including content scaling, keyword clustering, intent analysis, and automated internal linking.
  • Strong data analysis skills and proficiency in GA4, Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, or similar tools.
  • Strong project management skills with experience coordinating cross-functional teams.
  • Confident communicator capable of explaining strategy and performance to internal teams and clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate business impact through organic strategy, including ranking improvements, traffic growth, and conversion lift.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, digital media, computer science, or related field preferred.
  • Google Analytics or relevant SEO certifications are a plus.
