The Senior Data Engineer is essential for the successful modernization of our data platforms and practices, requiring expertise in cloud technologies, data architectures, and agile development principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, evaluate and enhance existing data platforms, identifying opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and cloud-based solutions (Microsoft Azure/Fabric preferred).
  • Modernize data infrastructure to improve scalability, accessibility, turnaround times, and security, enabling advanced analytics and data-driven insights.
  • Contribute to the establishment of standards and procedures for data management, integration, quality management, and process improvement.
  • Document and optimize data processes to ensure data consistency, accuracy, and timeliness for reliable decision-making.
  • Collaborate with IT teams, business units, and senior management to drive change and foster a data-driven culture.
  • Provide expert guidance, research, and support throughout data project lifecycles, ensuring stakeholder engagement.
  • Evaluate, enhance, and modernize data platforms, including exploring emerging technologies and cloud solutions to improve scalability, accessibility, and security.
  • Contribute to establishing, documenting, and optimizing standardized procedures for data governance, lifecycle management, and data quality.
  • Work with cross-functional teams and senior management to align data initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Monitor and optimize data platforms (Microsoft SQL Server on-premises, Microsoft Azure Cloud), data engineering processes, and system performance.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and drive innovation to enhance data processing efficiency and quality.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • 5 or more years of experience as a Database Architect.
  • 2-3 years of experience with data cloud technologies.
  • Microsoft SQL Server Certification preferred.
  • Expertise with GenAI technologies (OpenAI/CoPilot preferred) and leveraging data for those technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric / Microsoft Azure Data Platform.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Azure Data Factory.
  • Design and implementation experience with cloud-based Data Lake/Lakehouse (Azure preferred).
  • Expertise with Microsoft PowerBI and Microsoft Azure Spark platform.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Data Warehouse platform.
  • Advanced knowledge of Python and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server databases and related tools (SSMS, Visual Studio Data Tools).
  • Advanced T-SQL development, troubleshooting, and optimization skills.
  • Experience with SQL Server performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Advanced SSIS integration experience.
  • High-level expertise in ETL/ELT design and data pipeline creation.
  • Experience managing Master Data Management (Profisee MDM) and enterprise data catalog (Microsoft Purview).
  • Experience with C# scripting.
  • Strong understanding of data models, database design, and architecture techniques.
  • Expertise in data warehouse design using the Kimball approach.
  • Data visualization and analysis skills, with experience in Tableau and PowerBI preferred.
  • Experience working in an Agile workflow and using Git for source control.
  • Experience with API calls, handling JSON and XML data, and intermediate HTML/CSS skills.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate curiosity for database technologies and data analytics.
  • Strong project management, organizational, teamwork, customer service, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • General Linux experience.
  • Experience with law firm application databases like iManage, WestKM, Foundation.
  • Experience with SQL Diagnostics Manager (Idera) for monitoring and troubleshooting.
