Job Description

About the Role

McKesson is an impact-driven, Fortune 10 company that touches virtually every aspect of healthcare. We are known for delivering insights, products, and services that make quality care more accessible and affordable. Here, we focus on the health, happiness, and well-being of you and those we serve - we care. As a Senior Data Governance Analyst on McKesson's Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) team, you will play a critical role in operationalizing consistent, scalable, and enterprise-aligned governance practices across our data ecosystem. You'll ensure metadata quality, drive adoption of governance platforms, support data product oversight, and provide measurable business value through strong collaboration with data owners, stewards, engineers, and business leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistent ingestion, stewardship, and enrichment of metadata into the enterprise data catalog (Alation).
  • Enforce metadata quality standards and validate completeness, accuracy, and consistency across glossary terms, ownership, and technical metadata.
  • Partner with Data Engineering, Analytics, and Product teams to embed trust indicators into pipelines, platforms, and data products.
  • Maintain aligned business and enterprise glossaries per EDG standards.
  • Operationalize persona-based ownership models for enterprise systems and domains.
  • Support stewardship records and accountability mapping for Critical Data Elements (CDEs) across BU and Corporate teams.
  • Support integration of governance checkpoints within the data product lifecycle—from design to retirement.
  • Ensure ownership, metadata quality, and lineage documentation are complete and actionable.
  • Track KPIs related to asset trust, adoption, reuse, and business alignment.
  • Lead onboarding and enablement for catalog users—data stewards, engineers, analysts, and product teams.
  • Drive metadata enrichment efforts and monitor adoption through usage dashboards and maturity metrics.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for metadata support and training across the enterprise.
  • Maintain DG maturity scorecards, trust coverage metrics, and operational dashboards.
  • Leverage visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) to track adoption, quality indicators, and impact.
  • Collaborate with business partners to document value outcomes, including efficiency, compliance, and risk reduction.
  • Deliver training and communications to reinforce governance standards, roles, and accountability expectations.
  • Lead community engagement sessions and onboarding to strengthen literacy and ongoing alignment.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise data management, governance, or metadata operations.
  • Deep expertise with enterprise data catalog tools (preferably Alation).
  • Demonstrated experience in metadata management, business glossary design, and stewardship frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of data quality metrics, lineage, and data lifecycle governance.
  • Proficient in SQL and data querying for analysis and validation.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Azure Data Services.
  • Proven experience working cross-functionally in Agile/Scrum environments with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting data product governance at the enterprise level.
  • Familiarity with data quality tools like Informatica DQ, Ataccama, or internal accelerators.
  • Exposure to BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
  • Understanding of data privacy, compliance, and access control frameworks.
  • Ability to manage intake, prioritize requests, and drive delivery with precision.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information management, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certifications in Data Governance, Data Quality, or Metadata Management (e.g., CDMP, DAMA) are preferred.

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive compensation package as part of McKesson's Total Rewards.
  • Potential for annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities.
  • Pay range for this position is $104,800 - $174,600, aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy.
  • Additional benefits details available via the company's benefits page.
