About the Role

The Sr Manager, Digital Experience and Design plays a key role in the Digital Strategy and Communications team within the Global Engagement Division at American Airlines. This role will lead efforts to create a unified digital experience across internal platforms, designing engaging interactions to boost team member involvement and collaborating with stakeholders on projects aimed at fostering customer loyalty on external platforms. The position involves managing digital design strategies, systems, and teams to ensure usability, accessibility, and brand consistency across all digital properties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the digital experience team in defining and executing design strategies that drive engagement for both internal and external audiences.
  • Establish and maintain unified design systems that ensure usability, accessibility, and brand consistency across all platforms.
  • Create and optimize robust governance frameworks that maintain quality and alignment across internal and external digital properties.
  • Utilize analytics to evaluate experiences, identify gaps, and develop insights into both team member and customer needs and behaviors.
  • Drive personalization strategies for key audience segments through data-informed design decisions.
  • Partner with Technology, Marketing, and Operations stakeholders to implement test-and-learn strategies, manage technical implementation, and deliver on communication goals.
  • Collaborate with content and editorial teams to develop and uphold high-quality content, ensuring an excellent user experience.
  • Lead and manage digital channels including Newsroom, Intranet, Retiree Site, email distribution, digital signage, and emerging digital channels.
  • Define and track success metrics for all digital touchpoints to inform stakeholder decision-making.
  • Coach and mentor digital design teams in best practices, methodologies, and innovative approaches.
  • Partner with Product Owners and Technology support teams to develop and execute product roadmaps that enhance digital experiences.
  • Act as the voice of internal and external users in leadership discussions, advocating for exceptional digital experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in design, with at least 3 years of experience leading a team of designers.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating complex design solutions for internal and external audiences.
  • Exceptional analytical ability to evaluate and optimize digital experiences.
  • Outstanding leadership skills, including the ability to influence without authority and manage cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to present complex ideas clearly to all levels of management.
  • Experience with Web design platforms such as WordPress, Jive, Unily, SharePoint, TeamSite, Google Flutter.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, web development, and mobile responsive interfaces.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and/or other digital design tools such as Sketch.

Nice to Have

  • 6+ years of experience leading design teams and managing stakeholders.
  • 5+ years of experience in digital marketing, digital design, or customer experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of journey mapping and design thinking methodologies.
  • Experience with enterprise software and internal communication platforms.
  • Expertise with Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Unily, WordPress, and TeamSite.
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies and development constraints.
  • Experience with A/B testing, usability assessments, and personalization.
  • Knowledge of agile frameworks and collaborative design techniques.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in design, with at least 3 years of experience leading a team of designers.
