About the Role

Walmart's Talent Management Engineering team is seeking an exceptional Staff Front-End UI Software Engineer to deliver impactful, associate-facing applications and experiences within the People Tech pillar of EBS. You will be hands-on developing critical platform capabilities with cutting-edge technologies, building reusable and extensible platform services to impact 2.2 million Walmart associates worldwide. This role involves contributing to the design and development of scalable front-end features, integrating AI capabilities, and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are extensible and aligned with business goals. Walmart's Enterprise Business Services (EBS) is part of Walmart Global Tech, which supports millions of customers, associates, and stakeholders worldwide, fostering a culture of innovation, growth, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of complex, scalable front-end features with a focus on reusability, maintainability, and long-term system health.
  • Develop platform features using front-end technologies such as React and React Native, as well as microservices like Node.js, Java, and Spring Boot, and event-driven architectures including Kafka, SSE, and WebSocket.
  • Explore and integrate AI and Generative AI capabilities to enhance user experiences, drive personalization, and streamline front-end workflows.
  • Uphold engineering and operational excellence standards and embrace automation.
  • Partner closely with product, UX, and business stakeholders to align on vision and outcomes, ensuring solutions are extensible across multiple use cases.
  • Work cross-functionally with business, product, data science, front-end engineering, and data engineering teams to ensure alignment and achieve business goals.
  • Integrate various data structures using Cosmos DB, SQL Server, and GraphQL APIs.
  • Emphasize data security with sensitive data and access control.
  • Implement feature flags, CI/CD automation, and ensure high operational excellence with 99.99% uptime and sub-second API responses for P90 metrics.
  • Support production operations for critical and high-impact applications.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in React for web and React Native for mobile platforms.
  • Strong expertise in platform integration skills using React, React Native, Node.js, Java, and Spring Boot.
  • Proficiency in working with data structures such as Cosmos DB, Graph DB, SQL Server, Kafka, and GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience with version control using Git.
  • Proven track record of ownership and delivery.
  • Experience developing GenAI-based applications using skills like Prompt Engineering and RAG.
  • Experience with feature flags, CI/CD automation, and shift-left principles.
  • Experience with large-scale data pipelines in online advertising, recommender systems, e-commerce, or relevant areas.
  • Emphasis on data security with sensitive data and access control.
  • Highly resourceful and methodical in solution/architecture/API/codebase design and translating product requirements into engineering blueprints.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area.
  • Experience creating inclusive digital experiences and implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and integrating digital accessibility to support an inclusive culture.

Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 6 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in relevant field with 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
