The role of T&D Project Specialist I/II (Permitting) involves managing the permitting process for electrical distribution projects, supporting project milestones, and maintaining organizational visibility through documentation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end process of obtaining Railroad and Government Permits and License Agreements, including initiating, submitting, coordinating, reviewing, tracking, and securing approvals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure data is properly entered into FileShare and ArcFM for organizational visibility.
  • Build and sustain collaborative relationships with agency contacts.
  • Review and process invoices, conduct periodic audits for accuracy, and support team activities as needed.
  • Oversee permit tracking and reporting platforms to evaluate permitting metrics such as quantities, review durations, costs, deficiencies, and extensions.
  • Recognize and meet project milestones based on input from the project team and oversight of contractors responsible for permitting activities.
  • Assist with analyzing and evaluating process improvements under supervision.
  • Serve as a liaison between Design and Construction/Operations teams, providing practical perspectives on designs and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate updates to GIS footprint with GIS team representatives.
  • Support with follow-up on work design deficiencies and assist in reconciling construction As-Builts.
  • Interpret and communicate company policies and procedures to customers.
  • Conduct field assessments of electrical infrastructure, facilitate logistics for storm response, and participate in outage and restoration activities.
  • Assist with inspecting project sites, organizing meetings, determining metering requirements, and preparing detailed drawings using ArcFM, AutoCAD, or other tools.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of line worker, utility construction experience for T&D Project Specialist I.
  • 2-3+ years of related experience such as electric distribution/utility design or construction management for T&D Project Specialist II.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong math and technical aptitude.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage projects and analyze data.
  • Physical ability to walk, climb, stoop, bend, and stand for prolonged periods.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive.

Nice to Have

  • Successful completion of the Customer Projects Designer Development Program.
  • Experience with distribution design, electricity, and company policies and procedures.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Experience with mainframe and personal computer systems.
