The role involves overseeing the day-to-day activities of Technical Design and Sample Sew, providing technical, functional, and managerial support for these teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, develop, and manage Technical Design and Sample Sew strategy to manage the development and production of seasonal collections, chase product, and test orders.
  • Collaborate with VP Operations and Design and Merchandising leadership to deliver on product line metrics (development ratios, number of fits for fit approval, etc).
  • Ensure that all products are developed in a manner consistent with established fit, quality, and performance standards.
  • Support team in solving problems related to construction, fabrics, or trims, and collaborate with cross-functional partners for solutions that maintain design integrity and Nike DNA.
  • Partner with Technical Design leads on the fit process and development and maintenance of blocks for consistent fit and faster product development.
  • Oversee process and drive calendar adherence to ensure timely and accurate technical development across categories.
  • Review tools and processes for continuous improvement to increase productivity and implement best practices within Technical Design and Sample Sew.
  • Seek and present innovative approaches to enhance in-house expertise in Technical Design.
  • Work closely with the Sourcing team to optimize supply chain opportunities aligned with product priorities and business goals.
  • Support commercialization process and ensure readiness and timeliness of global buys.
  • Manage all fit model needs including hiring, discharging, pay rates, and invoice submission.
  • Participate in establishing and ensuring adherence to corporate practices related to PLM.
  • Oversee CAD pattern software and hardware, including administration, training, maintenance, and service contracts.
  • Coordinate and assist in training for relevant software applications such as Adobe Illustrator and PLM.
  • Order supplies and services for Technical Design and Sample Sew, reconcile and submit invoices.
  • Communicate with upper management regarding supplies, equipment maintenance, software updates, and new applications.
  • Complete projects and provide analysis and reports to upper management as requested.

Requirements

  • B.A. in Apparel Design or Apparel Production, or a job-related equivalent.
  • 5+ years management experience leading a team of 8 or more people.
  • Prior technical experience in swimwear, intimate apparel, or bodywear.
  • 8+ years experience in technical product creation such as technical design, pattern making, pattern grading, or marker making.
  • Proficiency with computer tools including Google Apps, MS Windows, Adobe Illustrator, PLM, and pattern design software (Optitex preferred).
  • Pattern making, pattern grading, and garment fitting experience.
  • Technical knowledge in pattern making, pattern grading, and material utilization.
  • Advanced fabrics and trims knowledge.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of apparel product creation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask with changing priorities.
  • Strong teamwork, leadership, coaching, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
