About the Role

The Product Manager - Residential Operators will be accountable for product management and development of residential (Pro and Retail) garage door openers for the Genie brand and other assigned brands. This role involves managing product profitability and growth, working cross-functionally with sales, finance, engineering, supply chain, and operations to drive margin improvements, product positioning, pricing, and quality targets to support the overall product portfolio strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Product Business Team, including cross-functional managers such as engineering and manufacturing.
  • Drive cost reductions, quality improvements, reduce returns, increase inventory turns, and launch new products.
  • Develop and manage new product activities ensuring proper product introduction on time with appropriate marketing support.
  • Create and own the 3-year product plan annually for residential garage door openers, developing strategies to increase sales and margins.
  • Analyze field input, market research, and competitive actions to develop market preservation and growth strategies.
  • Identify new channels and strategies to gain market share.
  • Own the Voice of Customer, translating market research into features and benefits that enhance product value.
  • Identify and develop product category extensions and evaluate opportunities for profitable commercialization.
  • Serve as the internal and external representative for defined product offerings, working with sales channels and key customers to increase sales and profitability.
  • Support the sales team with sales tools and training.
  • Work with brand management and sales to define go-to-market strategies, product positioning, and key benefits.
  • Communicate product positions and advantages in the marketplace and develop promotional vehicles to drive sales.
  • Conduct market, industry, and competitive analysis and positioning, working with finance to measure opportunities.
  • Support standardization and cost reduction goals, including product rationalization to optimize offerings and performance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7-10 years product management or marketing experience in consumer durable goods, preferably electrical or mechanical consumer goods.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing environments and sales organizations with multiple distribution channels.
  • Business development and product marketing background, with experience in developing product plans, strategies, and new product development.
  • Knowledge of brand marketing, market research, sales training, and field communications processes.
  • Computer literate in MS Office products, with advanced PowerPoint skills for creating compelling presentations and communicating complex information.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills for internal and external audiences.
  • Good problem-solving skills; Six Sigma training is a plus.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to organizational development over the next 12-18 months.
  • BA/BS in Marketing, Business, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; MBA or technical certifications are a plus.
  • Moderate travel required, approximately 20-30%.
