About the Role

The Vice President of Advancement is responsible for the overall management and execution of development, marketing, communications, and volunteer engagement for Rainbows United. This individual displays a passion for Rainbows and our mission, forging strong relationships to build the Agency's visibility, impact, and financial resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall management of the Development department, including leadership to the department staff, agency volunteers, and outside consultants.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and oversees all fundraising and development activities for Rainbows United.
  • Develops the annual communications plan and oversees its execution to meet the agency's goals and strategies.
  • Responsible for all agency communications, including press releases, crisis communications, family and volunteer communications.
  • Works in conjunction with the Vice President of Philanthropy to develop all donor communication strategies.
  • Oversees the creation and distribution of printed and digital marketing materials.
  • Promotes and records agency events, and maintains storage for all media records.
  • Responsible for the successful execution of the agency social media plan, including all posts and related social media communications.
  • Fosters donor relationships and solicits agency sponsorships and support for Rainbows events.
  • Oversees Rainbow's annual $1 million signature event, Fashion Passion.
  • Oversees annual fundraising budget.
  • Promotes the Agency within the community to ensure a broad base of funding resources.
  • Serves as a public representative of the Agency, articulating the Agency's mission and needs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to serve as a successful team member on the Executive Leadership Team and to interact effectively with the Agency Board of Directors.
  • Cultivates, develops and oversees private charitable foundation grant submissions and awards as a leader on the Grants Team.
  • Administers and monitors fundraising and development revenues and expenses in relation to annual budget.
  • Facilitates membership and activities of the Agency auxiliary group, Friends of the Heart.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, marketing, nonprofit leadership, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing a team.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in event management, a development position, sales, or related field.
  • Membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) upon employment.
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising processes and adherence to professional codes of ethics.
  • Experience coordinating and leading large-scale events.
  • Strong relationship skills, with ability to work with a wide variety of individuals of all socio-economic statuses.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs and graphics software.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Skilled at group and volunteer facilitation.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with industry-related software.
