About the Role

This position is an internal employment opportunity at Oregon State University within the University Relations and Marketing (URM) department. The role of the Content Marketing Strategist is to coordinate all content efforts across URM, build relationships with colleges and divisions, support marketing initiatives with content, and manage content strategy, cataloging, and distribution. The position functions as an 'editor in chief' or 'content librarian' for URM, leading content meetings, developing content strategies and calendars, and ensuring content is effectively used across multiple channels to support the university's marketing goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and execution of high-quality, engaging content tailored for various marketing audiences, primarily for web and marketing, in partnership with the News team to drive greater alignment.
  • Writes and sources content from across the university to better understand what is available and to make it accessible for URM and college/division needs.
  • Manages timelines and project documentation related to content efforts.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to develop content that supports the university's strategic plan and brand building efforts.
  • Applies content strategy expertise to inform the development of tactics and campaigns.
  • Leads analytics and data gathering to determine content engagement and guide future content development.
  • Develops and manages an editorial calendar to guide content usage and development, ensuring consistency and alignment with university messaging.
  • Builds and sources an editorial board that reviews and adjusts the content calendar regularly.
  • Innovates content development and testing new channels for content distribution, analyzing performance to set goals.
  • Researches content trends and competitive uses of content to support URM efforts.
  • Collaborates with URM channel owners to explore and test new content types and channels such as webinars, social media live sessions, and content distribution networks.
  • Facilitates asset collection (photos, videos, interviews) for efficiency and less burden on subjects.
  • Builds relationships across URM and college/division teams to understand content development and offer guidance.
  • Tracks sentiment and feedback from the community to inform content strategy and engagement tactics.
  • Partners with teams to provide input on messaging, tone, and voice based on analytics and trends.
  • Assesses current data and analytics for content efforts, identifies gaps, and collaborates to fill them.
  • Partners with the IMC team to manage campaign reports and assess content strategy effectiveness.
  • Supports URM efforts by writing, partnering, or producing multimedia content as needed.
  • Provides feedback on brand standards, policies, and best practices for content.
  • Stays updated on industry trends and emerging digital marketing strategies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field preferred.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience supporting or leading content marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Proven success in driving engagement and building audiences through creative content use.
  • Experience developing collaborative processes for tracking and organizing content.
  • Ability to create various forms of content including written, multimedia, and visual.
  • Proven creative thinking, including developing content for new platforms.
  • Self-starter with the ability to identify needs and determine solutions.
  • Experience with project management and content cataloguing tools such as Asana, Content Management Systems (CMS), and emerging content marketing tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with content creators, consumers, and audiences.
  • Experience innovating and managing new content platforms.
  • Ability to work across teams and handle sensitive issues.

  • Understanding of analytics and Google tracking.
  • Knowledge of content distribution vehicles and testing platforms.
  • Marketing experience in a university or academic setting.
  • Experience with multi-lingual content for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in content marketing or related roles.
  • Proven ability to develop engaging content and drive audience engagement.
  • Experience with content management and project management tools.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships across teams.
