About the Role

The Account Executive at MSC Industrial Supply Co. is responsible for organically generating sales by nurturing existing customer relationships and prospecting for new customers. This role involves providing world-class account management, acting as a liaison between the company and a group of customers, and working as part of a collaborative team to drive sales through acquisition, development, retention, and management of strategic clients in designated territories. The position supports MSC's mission to deliver innovative supply chain solutions and build strong customer relationships across various industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Penetrates accounts at both the functional and Executive level, working with Business Team leaders and industry experts to design solutions for customers' current and future needs.
  • Provides cross-territory technical and sales expertise when needed.
  • Executes MSC Collaboration projects and cross-selling activities.
  • Acts as a role model for all sales associates and demonstrates MSC values and financial achievement.
  • Works with internal teams to ensure operational efficiencies and service levels meet or exceed customer expectations through strong customer service and follow-up.
  • Achieves sales plan and account retention targets.
  • Identifies and grows opportunities within the district through collaboration with Strategic Accounts, National Accounts, MSC sales, and Sales Management.
  • Communicates initiatives effectively between multiple contacts within a customer.
  • Maximizes productivity through utilization of multiple MSC Solution channels.
  • Develops relationships with customers and delivers key components of the sales strategy.
  • Creates and delivers face-to-face sales presentations to prospective clients, demonstrating knowledge of products and services.
  • Stays aware of the competitive landscape and emerging technologies to position MSC effectively.
  • Develops sales territory strategy, including identifying partnerships and planning development.
  • Researches and generates new leads through prospecting activities such as cold calling, canvassing, and referrals.
  • Retains customers by delivering a superior customer experience.
  • Maintains accurate sales records and prepares reports.
  • Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; two to four-year college degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years outside direct sales/service experience preferred.
  • Experience in account retention and penetration, with a proven track record in new account acquisition and sales expansion.
  • High degree of integrity and ability to develop customer relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation and questioning skills.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email) and ability to use PC-based order entry systems and wireless scanners.
  • Basic math skills and ability to organize and manage time effectively.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to drive within an assigned territory.
  • Ability to lift, bend, and stretch frequently, with the capability to move products weighing up to 60 pounds.

Nice to Have

  • Technical product knowledge relevant to markets served, such as fasteners, chemicals, industrial maintenance supplies, electrical, food processing, manufacturing, etc.
  • Experience in account penetration and expansion within existing accounts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of outside sales or service experience preferred.
  • Experience in account retention and acquisition preferred.

  • Competitive starting salary of $69,000 - $71,000 (base plus commissions).
