About the Role

The Associate Director of Marketing, High School at Macmillan Learning plays a pivotal role in advancing the high school educational publishing portfolio. This role involves building on a legacy of excellence, setting strategic vision, and leading marketing efforts to engage teachers, support students, and strengthen the company's position as a preferred publishing and technology partner for school districts across the United States. The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on marketing responsibilities in a fast-paced, innovative environment committed to transforming education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape and communicate a clear, competitive vision for the High School portfolio that aligns with Macmillan Learning's overall strategy.
  • Lead the discovery and application of market research to inform product development, strengthen competitive positioning, and anticipate emerging opportunities.
  • Work closely with product, program management, and sales teams to ensure marketing strategies reflect evolving classroom needs and market conditions.
  • Guide long-term strategy to keep the portfolio relevant and competitive by monitoring trends, competitor activity, and embracing new technologies including AI.
  • Manage marketing for cross-discipline initiatives such as programmatic Platform strategy, campaigns, and sales enablement strategies.
  • Ensure the execution of divisional initiatives serves as a benchmark for quality, innovation, and results.
  • Travel to campus, company meetings, conferences, and events to support marketing initiatives.
  • Meet with key faculty, prepare and deliver presentations, and answer product questions to facilitate customer engagement.
  • Hire, coach, and develop high school discipline marketing managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
  • Provide strategic direction and feedback on campaign planning, and equip the team with marketing skills and AI-supported tools.
  • Drive the planning and execution of integrated marketing campaigns to increase speed, reach, and impact.
  • Identify opportunities to reuse and optimize campaign assets across channels and disciplines.
  • Collaborate with shared services teams to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and expand campaign capacity.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to assess campaign effectiveness and guide strategic adjustments.
  • Interpret performance data to identify trends and opportunities, ensuring marketing strategies remain agile and evidence-based.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in marketing campaign execution.
  • Experience successfully communicating and presenting on complex topics to diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated results from thinking creatively and strategically.
  • Experience working collaboratively across various departments and groups.
  • Ability to travel up to 10 weeks per year.
  • Strong business perspective and ability to align actions with larger company strategy.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities with objectivity and tact.
  • Prior employee management and development experience.

Nice to Have

  • Masters degree.
  • Prior experience in K-12 (preferably high school) education, publishing, or educational technology.
  • Ability to inspire and align cross-functional collaboration and support.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Business Suite, Marketo, Asana, Salesforce, and PowerBI.
  • Familiarity with AI-supported marketing workflows, tools, and analytics.
  • Passion for emerging marketing technologies.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring results from sales/marketing campaigns.
